The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert – 2 Stars (Regular)
What would Hollywood be without its share of bitchy, catty, gaudy, outrageous and mad movies?
That is probably why Stephen Elliott wrote and directed “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”. It is rare when the writer/director of a film can pull it off without the film turning into average to a disaster.
Elliott now formally joins a checklist that is really long and contains Kimberly Peirce, Vanessa Parise, Peter Weir, Nancy Myers, Thomas Bezucha, Michael McGowan, Jared Hess, Robert Rodriguez and Paul Thomas Anderson.
The worst of the lot? Paul Thomas Anderson for “Punch-Drunk Love”.
Elliott’s film has two drag-queens-Mitzi (Hugo Weaving) and Felicia (Man Pearce)-and a transsexual-Bernadette (Terence Stamp)-contract to carry out a drag show at a resort city in the remote Australian desert.
They head west from Sydney aboard a lavender bus referred to as Priscilla (do not request, just be affected person and accepting). En route we get a snapshot of drag queens getting bitchy, catty, gaudy and outrageous.
This movie is certifiably mad with a pair of poignant times, but is saved from being a awful movie by Terence Stamp, who attained a Golden Globe Very best Actor nomination. Stamp is actually satisfactory as a transsexual.
The “popular” thong dress was part of the wardrobe that won an Oscar at the Academy Awards for Ideal Costume Design and style by Lizzy Gardiner and Tim Chappel. The costume value only $seven. I did not even don’t forget seeing this seemingly well-known gown in the movie.
ABBA fans will enjoy this movie as the drag queens spent a whole lot of time lip-synching to ABBA’s music. ABBA was a Swedish pop tunes group active from 1972 to 1982.
Men and women who reside alternative life most likely liked Elliott’s motion picture.
I arrived away from this film sensation that the drag queens and transsexual have been genuinely sad individuals determined for acceptance they could not locate.
treehouse – one Star (Terrible)
Picture a freshly engaged normal couple whose vehicle breaks down in an isolated location. They should call for support and conclude up at the residence of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a Transylvanian transvestite involved in a bizarre life-style.
Welcome to “The Rocky Horror Photo Present” with Tim Curry (as Dr. Frank-N-Furter), Susan Sarandon (Janet Weiss) and Barry Bostwick (Brad Majors) joined by a solid of people who are odd, dysfunctional misfits.
Directed by Jim Sharman and created by Sharman and Richard O’Brien, The Rocky Horror Image Show is a horror parody utilizing camp, sci-fi and rock ‘n roll to generate a really awful film with no redeeming qualities worth mentioning.
The Rocky Horror Photograph Show bombed in its original release in 1975 but later acquired a cult pursuing at midnight showings, which is possibly all you actually need to have to know about this movie, other than it is saturated with sexual intercourse.
The character of Susan Sarandon (Janet) runs all around in her bra and slip both she and her hubby-to-be Brad get initiated into intercourse by Dr. Furter and she degenerates into a frequent slut with some fairly racy scenes for a flick 32 a long time previous.
Sarandon was 25 when she did the part and would get greater roles later on, earning four Academy Award nominations for Greatest Actress, and an Oscar for her function in “Lifeless Male Strolling” in 1995, twenty years soon after her position as Janet.
The Rocky Horror Picture show is not only a horrible film, it is also a horrific movie not well worth viewing.
